The Solution

The tenants at Venice Manor are determined to stop the proposed demolition, and to own the building ourselves, together. We know that by preserving Venice Manor, we’re not only doing the environment a favor -- we’re giving Venice more affordable housing than any for-profit developer would ever build here.

"By both preserving affordable housing and upgrading the environmental performance of the property, Venice Manor is showing, in a very tangible way, what urban sustainability can be."

~Walker Wells, Green Urbanism Program Director, Global Green
The Elements of Sustainability
Joint ownership speaks to sustainability by creating social equity, economic stability, and a format for people to collectively adopt environmentally responsible practices. We want to preserve an endangered niche of affordable living in Venice while updating a half century-old building to environmentally friendly standards. Luckily, we’ve found some great advisers. Global Green, for example, is helping us work out the most effective things we can do to make our building more sustainable.

Venice Manor could become a showcase for manifesting many of the things this community cares about.
